I agree with a lot that the author has to say. Here is one example he insists on removing AdSense from your blog. Why? There are a lot of reasons for this:
1) Adsense does not pay much. Which would you rather get, 40 cents for an adsense click or $15 commission for an affiliate sale?
2) Adsense takes people away from your blog for that measly sale. If they are leaving m,y blog I want it to be for a big ticket item that is closely related to my blog so I have a HIGH CONVERSION RATE (meaning that if I carefully pick all of my affiliate ads, then they are all related to the information that I am posting and the chances are that if someone clicks on one of the ads it is because it interests them and they need something like that. Hence a high chance of conversion. Adsense often posts stuff unrelated to your blog no matter how hard you try to filter it.
You know I question the value of all the pinging he does but I am going to check out the sites and tips he gives. Especially the submitting to the blog directories to get the back links. Building the links you have into your website is pretty much accepted SEO strategy. And anything you can do in the beginning, especially anything that yo take the time to set up once and its automated from then on, thats worth doing.

Remember you have to try things for yourself. Believe it or not what works for one person may not work for you> A lot of it has to do with the combination of things that you do. But at the end of the day it all comes back to your blog. Quality information, good look and feal, good organization.
