How to Affiliate Marketing – 5 Things you must know to succeed

How to Affiliate Marketing – I am going to show you the 5 basic, super important things, you need to know!

Before I get started with the 5 things you need to know  if you want to learn Ho to Do affiliate Marketing, Lets define affiliate Marketing so we are all on the same page.

In affiliate Marketing there are usually 2 basics things:
1) Affilate Marketers (you)
               and
2) Affiliate Networks

So what are Affiliate Networks?
The affiliate network is composed of the group of affiliates and the group of merchants. An example of an affiliate Network is Clickbank. Each appropriate group has their own function and role. Affiliate networks acts as a third party between the merchants and the affiliates. They provide the technology to deliver the merchants campaigns and offers. They also collect commission fees from the merchant and pay the affiliates. The networks being the middlemen and supply valuable services to the marketer and the affiliate. Clickbank or Commission Junction, to name two of the leading network groups. Yes, two leading avenues available to anyone who starts their business.

What is Affiliate marketing?

Affiliae Marketing is a business venture effort between merchants and affiliates. As you see, there are two parties involved:

1. There is a Merchant or product manufacturer or owner. They are the ones selling a product or service, The usually enter into an agreement with an affiliate network market like clickbank, If you are just starting out it is MUCH better to start out with an affiliate network then with an individual merchant/product owner. Clickbank makes it easy and has great tools for tracking your sales, clickes etc.

2. Affiliates are any website or blog owner (YOU!) who promote merchants affiliate program. This can be profitable if you understand the basics. I am teaching you the outline of the basics.

How To Affiliate Marketing #1: Do research and understand your market niche

  1. Read the websites of people who are going to soon be your competitors
  2. read the ads from companies that sell products or information similar to what you want to sell.
  3. Join some forums  that are related to your market and start talking to people.
  4. Ask them what they need,  what could be better, what they really want.
  5. LEARN THE LINGO! Every nioche has its own special lingo, keywords and phrases that yo need to hone in on.
  6. Take notes. Later on you will use this info to write articles and market products!
  7. IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, UNDERSTAND YOUR NICHE MARKET, JUST QUIT NOW.

How To Affiliate Marketing #2: Discover High Performance Keywords.

OK I could go on forever on this one here is the bullet list and then a link or two to help you on this the most critical of tasks:
1) Get a good quality Keyword Software tool/ If you don't and your competitors do – you lose.
2) Learn how to use the tool to select Keywords that are relavant to your Niche, Have good usage but are not too competitive.
3) Select Keywords that have a high CPC (Cost per click) these are high performance purchase keywords. The high CPC means that marketers pay a lot for these keywords for adword campaigns because the people who use them in searchs convert well to sales – exactly what you want.
4)  Here  are links to the two top keyword tools. I like Keyword Research Pro the best. You decide for yourself:

You can click on this link to read a review of Keyword Research Pro

You can click on this link to read a review of Keyword Elite 2.0.

FYI Keyword digger is easy to use and really Flexible: Keywords Digger, The easy Keyword Research Tool

How To Affiliate Marketing #3: Write Quality Relevant Content (articles or Blog Entries) with your list of High Performance Keywords.

  1. DO NOT just copy other peoples articles and "spin them" with an auto rewritter.
  2. That might work for a site that is trying to just get dearch engine traffic and then make money off of adsense
  3. BUT IT WON'T WORK IF YOU ARE TRYING TO MARKET PRODUCTS TO PEOPLE.
  4. Many people take several visits to make a purchase decision. If your content sucks they won't be back.
  5. If you are not a good writer then you can higher a writer pretty inexpensively.
  6. If nothing else select some good articles and rewrite them in your own words.

How To Affiliate Marketin #4: Learn on page SEO and apply it top your articles.

I will give you some tips here but then go to http://Wordpress-how-to-wp.com and read their section on SEO. Yhey tell you the do's and the don'ts of on page SEO in easy to read articles and they tell you what wordpress plugins to use for SEO.

  1. Make sure your page title and title meta tag have your main keyword in it in the beginning
  2. Make sure your description and description meta tag describe your site in a way that people in your niche will understand and want to click on it to read more.
  3. Make sure you limit each page to 1 -3 keyword phrases and use them in the article on that page.
  4. Don't worry to much about the keyword tag it is less and less important all the time
  5. Don't worry to much about keyword density. Not so important anymore.
  6. Do include pictures. Do make sure the alt tag (the alternate picture heading) includes your keywords

How To Affiliate Marketing #5 Learn the art of product selection

  • Don't try to use adsense as your main way of making money if you have a low traffic site. Adsense Only ads up on high traffic sites.
  • As a matter of fact I am against adsense. Why send traffic away from your site for 50 cents or a buck?
  • Clickbank products and other affiliate products typically pay you 20% – 75% of the profit.
  • Amazon is 4 – 15%
  • Check out DataFeedr. It creates an affiliate store in ablog for you autoimatically. Just an incredible tool. Yo sell products from hundreds and hundreds of  manufacturers. They have 1.5 million products I think.Like drop ship on steroids. You can click on this link to go to DataFeedr and check it out.
  • Experiment with product placement. Place prodcut ads next to relavant articles
  • Cut the products that don't sell.
  • Don't just start with all cheap or all expensive. findout what your niche likes.

How to make a sales page for your blog

What is a Sales page anyhow?? A blog Sales Page is also called a “Splash Page” or a landing page. Knowing How To Make A Blog Sales Page is a great way to get your core Blog message to your audience. NOTE: If you are new to blogging and want a good getting started guide you can click on this lnk to read a detailed getting started blogging guide!

With a  Blog sales page everyone that goes to your home page will read your core message. This is very common with Niche sites. For example if your site is aimed at selling a video on how to jump higher, you will probably want everyone that goes there to see your main page where you try to sell the video.

Also, even with a Premium (purchased) WordPress Theme you may want a  Sales page with lots of pictures or a sales pitch that makes it really stand out from other peoples blog. You can always list all the categories and other pages in tabs along the top and recent posts in a sidebar! And yes, if people like your blog, they WILL take the time to click around and see what else you have to say!

How To make the Blog Sales Page. If you use a default “free theme” or a Professional Custom Theme (Like one from Woo Themes) you can create a static front page for your wordpress Theme with a few simple changes. This article teaches you everything you need to know step by step to create a WordPress Static Page!

Background info before we show you how to modify a Blog Theme for a static Front Page:

1) By default WordPress shows your recent Posts on the first page of your Website or blog, page of your site.[/caption]

2) So if you change your Blog to have a static front page, you also have to change it so WordPress has a place to show all your recent blog posts and articles right?

3) WordPress often calls this a “Virtual Directory”

4) Creating a static front page for a WordPress Blog does not require editing or coding of files or templates. Using the default configuration for a "static front page" in WordPress does not remove the sidebar or change the look of the entire site, just the content area. So How to create a Blog Static Page is really pretty easy!

5) Important note on "How to Make a Blog static page" – When you create a Splash Page for your wordpress Theme it no longer uses the “wordpress Loop” to show your most recent blogs or peoples comments on the front page of your Theme. However the static page can be customized to link to featured content, or highlight posts,or direct people to  articles, categories, or contributors.

How to Create a Static Front Sales Page for your wordpress Theme:

Step 1) Create 2 WordPress Theme pages

using the "Add New Page" panel. Log into your admin account of your Website. Click on the “Pages” option on the right hand side of the panel. Click on “Add New”

From now on I will refer to each page as page 1 and page 2

Step 2) Page 1 -The first page Can be called what ever you want but most people call it “Home”. This is the Blogs static page (Splash Page) for your wordpress Theme.

  • You can add whatever content you want to your WordPress Static Page.
  • You can come back later and edit the page.
  • You can imbed links to other pages within the body of the text on your WordPRess Static Page(I recommend installing the ckeditor plugin to make adding, links, pictures and better text a lot easier). To other pages or articles on your blog).
  • You can add pictures to your Blogs Static Page– I recommend that you do. Remember that most people call a WordPress Static Page a "Splash Page". You want to make a Splash! And pictures can do that! And you can add attributed to those pictures that the Search Engines will key on so make sure to do that).

Step 3) Page 2 – Title this page as “Blog” (or new or articles or whatever) this is the page that  will contain the posts etc for your site.DO NOT add text to this page. Just publish it empty and go to the next step!!

[/caption]

Step 4) Designate which page of your blog is the “Front Page” .

Click on “settings” (you should be logged in as admin. It should be on the left side of the admin panel of your wordpress theme as pictured below. Then Click on “Reading” .

  1. Under “front Page displays” Click the  “Static Page” button and then
  2. Fill in the title of the Static Page that you defined above in the “Front Page” Box.
  3. Fill in the title of the “Blog” Page that you created above (the one we said to leave empty).
  4. Click “Save Changes” at the bottom.
    1. Set which page will be designated the "front"

Now go to your Website (refresh the screen to make sure that your changes show up).

If the WordPress Static Page is now the “Home Page” of your WordPress Theme (Blog) ->Cool! You did it!

If it isn’t, don’t panic! Lets figure it out.

Troubleshooting WordPress Themes

First, go back thru each of the steps of how to modify a wordpress theme to create a WordPress static page. The most common problem  is not saving the “reading” setting change, or not clicking the little button in the reading setting.

So check these steps and then close your browser, re-open it and go to your Website and see if the change to your wordpress theme is there. Some WordPress Themes (free or purchased)  won’t easily create a Blog static page. The most common problem is the Navigation Bar that many wordpress themes have and that contains links to the pages of your blog. Some themes have a “Home” page already defined. This can cause issues with the “home page” you just created. You need to get rid of that “other” home page!

Affiliate Store Data feed How To Guide

How to use Data Feeds to set up an Affiliate Store

An Affiliate store is an ecommerce site that can be imbedded into an existing blog or Website (or generated using an automated affiliate store software system like datafeedr) and sells products from one or more suppliers.

The advantage of an Affiliate store vs a traditional ecommerce store is that YOU DON'T BUY THE INVENTORY!  You are marketing the products for the suppliers (you are their affiliate). When a customer clicks on an item to buy it it takes them to the suppliers site to complete the transaction.

You also get credit for any other items they buy while they are on that site.

But you never have to hold the inventory, pack and ship the item, deal with credit cards etc. BUILDING AN AFFILIATE STORE IS A SWEET DEAL!

What are Data Feeds and how do they work?

Data Feeds are a file of information that is fed to a Website or blog. In the case of an affiliate store this file contains product pictures, descriptions and pricing. The supplier usually teams up with a data feed provider to get his product information in the right format. When you sign up with the supplier to be his affiliate you get access to the data feed to automatically sends the products and information that you want to sell to your Website or blog (THERE IS NEVER A COST with most affiliate programs so take it as a warning sign if someone trys to charge you to sell their products ads an affiliate!).

Data feeds are easy to add to your Website.

Data Feeds bring in content from suppliers that is relevant to the content and products you are promoting. As a result, you can greatly increase your traffic, your Website’s viability and the great thing is that placing data feeds onto your Website is easy to do.

You can put affiliate store script that is customized for your Website up in only a few minutes.

An affiliate store script is also known as mashup scripts. These are scripts, which create a mashup or conglomeration of data from the affiliate sites that you belong too. You have two choices on how to do this. The easiest is to pay for a tool like DataFeedr and just click on the suppliers and items categories you want and let dataFeedr do the work.

If you want to create your own Mashup here is some basic advice: It is a good idea to pick a wide range for example using Youtube, Amazon, and Ebay. This gives you relevant data feeds to create mashup scripts for your Website that hit a variety of areas.
You can give your customers and visitors the change to watch videos that are relevant such as how to videos or videos on the latest products or news relating to your products. You can show books or products from Amazon that can assist customers and auctions from Ebay that are related.

These affiliate store script options give a wide variety of depth to your Website. One of the biggest problems with affiliate businesses is making your Website attractive. There are hundreds or even thousands of affiliates attempting to do the same thing. Sell products and make money using affiliate services as a result it is important to be able to stand up and out above the rest. Data feeds can help to do this.

Having depth to your site makes it dynamic, it creates a way to update your Website regularly with a minimum amount of effort and allows you to reach a larger and more diverse audience. It also keeps people coming back to your Website to purchase items because they can find a little of everything they might be looking for in a single location.

You can put affiliate store script that can create a page full of data feeds for your Website in only a few minutes. These can be customized for your Website and business to bring in relevant traffic that will keep coming back to your site and be willing to share with their friends. Spreading the word on your business, increasing your traffic and being a site that is dynamic and different from your competitors is the name of the game and mashup scripts can help you accomplish this.

Finally DataFeedr is a great choice because it not only creates an individual page for each item with descriptive keyword rich content but it creates SEO optimized page names. This will create lots of long tail keywords for your Website automatically! Totally Cool!

AND with DataFeedr you pay by the month but can quit at anytime and keep your store as is. So why pay by the month? Because it will AUTOMATICALLY "Drip Feed" new products to your site on a daily basis. That means it is automatically creating new long tailed keyword pages and keyword rich related content automatically every day while creating new products for you to sell. AUTOMATICALLY.

So if you are a programmer you can do the data file feed mash ups and integration your self.

For the rest of us you can't beat a tool like datafeedr! You can read more by clicking this link to go to www.affiliatestoreguide.com

FREE MLM vs. Affiliate Marketing Video with companion Guide

The difference between MLM and affiliate marketing.

This video is obviously for the newbie's out there. I will give you a quick Affiliate Marketing vs Multi level Marketing primer

before you view the video.

What is affiliate Marketing? What is Multi Level Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing involves marketing the product of another company> as an affiliate of that company you share in the proceeds of the sale. They may provide you with marketing material and they may provide you with sales materials (such as videos to use on your Website, etc). but at the end of the day wether you are an affiliate market rep for one company, one product or if you use an automated tool like Datafeedr to generate an entire Affiliate store for you on your Website, you still only make money when you initiate the sale of the companies product.

With MLM not only do you sell  the product but you sign up other members. In this aspect you are almost like their manager (although there is often no management involved) and you get a small percent of their sales AND the sales of everyone that they sign below them! So not only are you motivated to sell the product but you are motivated to get more salesman to sell the product because you get a cut of their sales.

Because of this MLM structure some companies have allowed themselves to focus more on the sales then on the quality of the product or the price and  MLM has gotten a bad rep because many companies sell crap. The whole game is just to get other people to sign up to sell below you and often signing up requires you to by x amount of stuff yourself. sometimes on a regular basis. So everyone is buying the stuff so everyone is making some money but often the product is questionable and the price is high.

Both affiliate Marketing and MLM involve sales and work. In affiliate marketing the challenge is to pick products that are related to the information on your blog and Website so that the people coming to your Website to read your content will be interested in the affiliate products that you are marketing. if they are not then they will just ignore the ads or even the articles about the products and you will wonder why you are not getting many clicks or sales. IN MLM the challenge is to find people who will actually work to both sell the products and to sign more salespeople.

Yes some people get rich in both. But in reality, with MLM if you have to buy product you don't need then you are in the hole right off the bat and it is harder to make money. If you are in affiliate marketing or have an affiliate market store and you have costs to running the site like pay per click advertising or other costs in generating traffic to your site like paying to have articles written, etc, then you are in the hole as well and have to make more sales just to break even.

But neither are as costly as having a bricks and mortar store or your own web store where you have to buy the product and hope the inventory sells at a profit that is high enough to cover all your costs and shipping and returns etc.

Its not easy for any of these but they are all good side businesses if you are willing to put the work in.

We recommend automating your Website or blog with a tool like DataFeedr. it automatically populates your Website with an affiliate store and generates traffic driving keyword specific content at the same time. check it out on our Website at affiliatestoreguide.com. We offer a great deal on this leading edge affiliate Marketing software and throw in a lot of free valuable bonuses as well!

Which method is inexpensive, easy to install, and more robust? RSS? SOAP? XML? XSLT? PHP? iFrame? CGI scripts? Associate-o-matic? AssociateShop? Associate Engine? Mall Column? Yahoo Merchants? (Note: Yahoo Merchants is too expensive for my purposes of selling only an Amazon products as an affiliate.)

Soc check out the amazon astore if you want to use amazon.
BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you consider Datafeedr that we sell here. Why? Amazon you are going to make from 4% – 15% on each sale.
